“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said,

people will forget what you did,

but people will never forget

the way you made them feel.”

Maya Angelou

The past few weeks have been difficult ones for all of us who profess openly and without shame our love for Michael Jackson. This latest attack upon his character, coming ten years after he left this physical life to continue his mission, has hit all of us hard.

Those of us who were recruited to his side before 1993 remember well the helplessness of that time as we were forced to watch day after day of ever-increasing assault upon our Beloved’s integrity and person for thirteen months – with no voice raised to caution reason or speak in his defense. Even his own sister, LaToya, spoke against him.

We felt his devastation as a personal violation. We knew his despair, his helplessness, his confusion, his rage. We knew the injustice he was suffering; we suffered it with him. We did what we could to stem the avalanche of misinformation and we held on tight to the way he makes us feel in the best way we could.

With the technological advances at our disposal, we became the voice raised to caution reason; we spoke in his defense in every way we could. Armed with facts instead of supposition and innuendo, we did the homework the media refused to do and we stood in truth. We became the new media.

For many of us, myself included, 1993 became the turning point upon which the rest of our lives hinged – the fulcrum which supports the balance, allowing us to lift the heavy weight of confusion from our hearts in faith. In our Beloved’s predicament, we found our voice and we used it in his service to the best of our abilities.

We anchored ourselves in the way he made us feel – empowered, important, loved – and we did what we hitherto would have thought was impossible for us to do. We grew in his joy, we danced in his ebullient energy, and we changed the way we saw ourselves and our world.

None of us could have imagined that we would feel the same devastation, violation, confusion, helplessness, and rage – that the same injustice would be perpetrated against him twenty-six years later – and in his absence. This feels very familiar; we have been here before.

Please know – all of you – from one who was there then and is now here in 2019 – THIS TOO SHALL PASS. He shall emerge from this attack stronger and more innocent than ever. We, too, shall ride out the storm, gaining in strength and empowerment and unity. I cannot claim to know how it will all be resolved, but resolved it will be.

My faith in that is sure because “people will never forget the way you made them feel.”

And Michael Jackson makes us feel the joy of being alive, the strength of many voices joined in one glorious chorus. He makes us feel empowered to reach out and make a difference, to heal ourselves and our world, to use our gifts to benefit all. In that power, we can all stand with our heads held high, proud to be members of his “family.”

And as I am finishing writing this brief post, I hear from my granddaughter’s room a familiar voice. She is watching some totally unrelated video on her phone in her room, enjoying another day off from school. And the voice?

“You knock me offa my feet now, baby

Praying Angel

Gotta love him!

 My Beloved,

It seems like it has been such a long time since we have talked. The Christmas and New Year seasons have presented some unexpected challenges.

What kind of challenges?

Well, at the last minute, I decided to knit gifts for all of my grandchildren. It would have worked out okay if I had made that decision in July or August, but November was cutting it a little close for comfort. I ended up knitting 24/7. Every spare moment for a month and a half was spent knitting. I was still finishing one set of scarves and hats at 8:00 AM Christmas morning.

Unfortunately, while I do enjoy knitting, getting everything done in time meant that I had to seriously curtail many of my other activities, including working on art and practicing my piano keyboard as well as these Conversations. There are only so many hours in a day.

And I bet you got yourself all tied in knots about it, didn’t you?

Yes, I did.

And as we’ve talked about so many times before, your anxiety level has a serious effect on your feelings. You don’t feel me near you, encouraging you to relax.

Yes, that’s true. I have felt that you were more distant than I am comfortable with over the last few months. I have still had occasional injections of your presence in my everyday life, but they have seemed less … uh … connected.

Plus the situation in the United States currently is so disheartening. It has not gotten any better since our last discussion. As a matter of fact, if anything, it has gotten worse. I am just dumbfounded that this administration is still in power.

Yes … “these are the worst of times … and these are the best of times.”

Oh, thank you for bringing these words to mind. I heard an audio tape of this address through a Facebook friend and I had to transcribe it immediately to save it for myself. May I quote it here?

Of course.

These are the worst of times and these are the best of times.

Racism, bigotry, ethnocentrism, prejudice, hatred and violence are breaking the heart of our planet and strangling its soul.

And, yet, we are coming alive as never before.

Nelson Mandela, a black man, a former symbol of subjugation and slavery, guides South Africa.

Democracy and freedom flourish as never before and a new consciousness proclaims the dawn of the Age of Enlightenment, where survival of the fittest is replaced by survival of the wisest.

Let us dream of the great and sudden splendor of a new tomorrow.

Let us dream of the full flowering of a new collective consciousness.

Let us dream of a tomorrow where we can hold our heads high and stretch our arms toward perfection.

Let us dream of a tomorrow when we no longer fragment and fracture our global village with narrow domestic walls, where tribalism no longer surfaces under the pretense of nationalism and patriotic fervor, and where we can truly love from the soul and know love as the ultimate truth at the heart of all creation.

Let us dream of a tomorrow where our children are nurtured and protected and nourished and our elders are revered and honored and venerated.

Let us dream of peace and harmony and laughter.

Let us dream of joy and ecstasy.

Let us dream of dancing the cosmic dance.

And as we dream, let us remember those who dreamed before us and sacrificed their yesterday so we could have our tomorrow.

Michael Jackson

I don’t know the occasion you marked with this wonderful speech or the particular circumstances, but I found your words, spoken in your beautiful voice, so encouraging.

I must confess, however, that I am having a difficult time perceiving ‘the best of times’ part of your address.

Of course you are, and that is because these signs of advancement are less tangible than the very obvious signs of ‘the worst of times.’ They indicate a shift in consciousness – something to which much of the world gives very little, if any, credence.

To many, consciousness is some nebulous state that cannot be located. Modern science has historically devoted very little effort in defining consciousness or in realizing that it is consciousness that allows all that we know to exist, but that is changing very rapidly. We have spoken about the research into this question frequently.

Yes, we have, Beloved. Recently, I happened upon an interview conducted by Dr. Deepak Chopra with Robert Lanza, M.D., the author of Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe and its sequel Beyond Biocentrism: Rethinking Time, Space, Consciousness, and the Illusion of Death, both of which we have talked about in previous conversations. [Installment 112 – April 16 through April 25, 2018]

Dr. Chopra interviewed Robert Lanza on his radio program and they discussed both of these books in considerable detail, including how Lanza’s research appears to confirm ancient Eastern philosophies.

And we have spoken in all of these conversations about how focus changes our consciousness … and, therefore, changes our reality and how we experience it.

Have there been no positive developments in this area in recent months?

Well, to be fair, yes there have. Several investigations are ongoing in the federal courts specifically focusing on contributions to the president’s election campaign from Russia and the Trump Foundation is being investigated in New York for violations involving conflict of interest.

But the biggest positive that has occurred is the election of 40 Democratic representatives to the House of Representatives and the re-election of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. I have heard her speak and she seems to have a firm knowledge of how this democracy is supposed to work and may be able to ‘school’ the president in this regard, because from what I have seen and heard, the man is clueless regarding the Constitution and its system of checks and balances. A ‘blue wave’ across the nation for the mid-term elections resulted in a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives.

So, you see, voters went out to the polls to return a more balanced leadership. This indicates an ‘awakening’ in the general public to the excesses that are occurring in the administration. It is slower, but it is an upswing.

As has happened so frequently in the past, you are focusing on all that is wrong with the world, with the government, with life in general – and that is understandable because these things are so much in your face. They are broadcast on television news programs with panels of experts providing in-depth commentary at all hours of the day and night. There is no way to free yourself from them except not to watch them and that feels irresponsible.

This creates fear and anxiety and fear and anxiety make it more difficult for you to feel my presence as frequently and as strongly as you would like.

In fact, re-focusing your attention on what you want the world to be – on the love and compassion you want the world to show you – becomes extremely difficult. However, even if you manage to achieve only limited success in re-envisioning the world, you have changed your consciousness for those few moments. And your consciousness creates your reality.

Although much less tangible than the things that cause you fear and anxiety, the moments of success you achieve will add up over time and will affect your reality. As more and more join us, it cannot help but to create a new consciousness. This is how we make the world a better place. Not with tangible, but fleeting, fear and anxiety, but with positive, lasting change.

In addition to the pandemonium in government, Beloved, I am sorry to report that a new documentary which is based upon Wade Robson’s and James Safechuck’s civil suit against your estate is being presented at the Sundance Film Festival this month. Your followers are barraging the Sundance committee with petitions and threatening boycotts to prevent this documentary. Your estate has spoken out against its broadcast as have your defense attorney, Tom Mesereau, your nephew, T.J., and your bother, Jermaine, but at this time it appears that the committee is impervious to the reactions against the documentary. I have recently heard that it will also be broadcast on HBO later in the month.

It appears that the fact that both of these former friends’ civil suits against your estate were dismissed by the legal courts and that both of them testified under oath that nothing inappropriate ever happened is being ignored in favor of exploiting your name and your reputation.

Yes, and this will keep happening as long as there is money to be made. Until the public walks out of the theaters showing these lies in disgust and stops buying the tabloids that perpetuate such wickedness they will continue. The only way to stop it is to stop ‘buying their garbage.’ Make it unprofitable – hit them where it counts – in the wallet. When it becomes unprofitable to make such documentaries, they won’t be made.

If the public continues to support such things financially by buying tickets and tabloids at checkout stands, they will continue to produce them. Follow the money trail. That’s where it all ends.

As we have said before: The important thing to remember is that “lies run sprints but the truth runs marathons.” This is just another sprint; there have been many in the past ten years (as you experience time.) Petition and boycott – let your voices be heard. But don’t let them distract your focus. We have a job to do and it is an important job that will take every bit of your focus and determination.

Continue to re-imagine your world as one that does not support character assassination, lies and innuendo. Come and join me and “let us dream …”

And that brings us right back to the address quoted at the beginning of this dialog.

I love it when a plan comes together, don’t you?

Indeed I do, my dear one. I ran into another quote on Facebook last week that was posted by a dear friend [my thanks] and I would be grateful to round out this Conversation with it.

Go for it.

Thanks. Well, this quote is by Gerald Campbell, a former Republican representative in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Michael Jackson died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 25, 2009. The suddenness of his death came as a source of shock to all of us.

“Some have used the occasion to present a contemptibly narrow view of his personal struggles. But as the months and years roll by, it is the contribution of his musical genius that will be written permanently in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. Even now, the greatest of his peers have recognized him as one of the most gifted and accomplished musical artists of the last century.

“Few artists have used their talents to uplift mankind as vigorously as Michael Jackson. Though lean in stature, he stood firmly against social and political forces that seek to diminish the integrity of the human spirit. He uplifted individuals struggling to be free. At the same time, his voice spoke a message that went far beyond the rights of the individual. Michael reminded us that personal dignity and individual freedom can only be perfected in the warm embrace of human solidarity.

“It was the human family that stood foremost in Michael’s mind. “We are the world,” he said. And against this backdrop, he challenged freedom-loving individuals to act heroically for the betterment of all. “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change,” he said.

“Thus Michael Jackson was no spokesman for narcissism, despite the fact that he often sought refuge there. At bottom, his music was driven by the ancient dream of brotherhood of man. He saw redemption in a bonding of all individuals in simple humanity. Human solidarity – LOVE – was for him the foundation of justice and the meaning of life!

“Armed with this simple vision, Michael set about to dedicate his life to others. As a young boy, he burst onto the world’s stage like a bolt of lightning and, once there, he inspired youth and the youthful to act on behalf of justice and the human community. He created a powerful synergy with his audiences and, through this confluence, helped generate a moral force that, over time, would bring the world to a better place.

“It is not commonly recognized how much Michael Jackson contributed to U. S. public diplomacy during the last decade of the Cold War. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Michael’s music inspired young people in captive nations to take chances on behalf of freedom and democracy. With his dramatic style, he electrified youth and stirred them to unite in common purpose. In response, they rallied moral forces against fear and set about to challenge the ubiquitous brutality of totalitarian regimes. The collective energy Michael and other artists inspired became a critical factor in bringing about the political collapse of the Soviet Union and its Eastern European empire. “We are the world.”

“Surveys taken by the Voice of America during the 1980s demonstrate his appeal. Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, and Billy Joel were the preferred pop artists for VOA listeners behind the Iron Curtain. The music they provided offered a unique challenge to the fundamentals of Soviet totalitarianism – fear and isolation. It enabled listeners to dream of freedom and dignity, and it filled their hearts and minds with a practical determination to seek a brighter future.

“But among all American pop artists, it was Michael Jackson that towered above the rest. His popularity achieved the highest ranking by VOA listeners – more than 50% approval.

“I recall myself and a friend crossing the border into East Berlin before the Wall was torn down. As my friend maneuvered our rented VW to the checkpoint, I pulled back the sunroof and rolled down the windows. Earlier, I had cued a tape to play Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.” As the guard approached, I hit the play button and turned the volume way up. The guard, who was carrying an automatic rifle, asked for our passports. Instead of responding directly, I said over the top of the music: “Do you like Michael Jackson?” He looked nervously at the guard house and then quickly nodded in approval. For a long moment, his face was covered with an unforgettable smile. But more than signaling his approval, the guard had broken military decorum.

“Similarly, when we returned to the West through Austria, the guard stationed there responded to my question by first placing his machine gun on the ground. Then, he grabbed my closest hand with both of his and said: “Yes, oh yes. Michael Jackson!” Not far away, hidden in a clump of bushes and trees, I saw the dark, sinister presence of Soviet tanks.

“Michael’s creative imagination enabled him to craft a music of freedom, a music replete with a crisp defiance of injustice and unjust authority, a music deeply tinged with respect for the essential dignity of the human person. In a world whose temptations breed isolation and aloneness, Michael’s music gave voice to our common need for love, compassion, understanding, and mercy. It gave succor to those struggling to belong and unleashed a willfulness to labor against the forces of spiritual alienation. In a world dominated by fear, his music gave transcendent purpose and the hope of future redemption. In short, Michael’s artistry was an energy that inspired resistance against all forms of cultural and political repression. It was a music whose vitality cried out for a liberation of the human spirit.

“Reflecting on the 1980s and early 1990s, one labors to imagine a more heroic episode in history’s hard march against tyranny. Liberty sprang up amidst a near bloodless convulsion, and took a daring but peaceful step forward. It was in the intensity of this revolutionary fervor that the artistry of Michael Jackson towered as a beacon of light for those struggling to be free.

“In the YouTube video below, listen to Michael perform “Man in the Mirror.” Hear his words. Watch the imagery. Reflect how deeply he pleads for each individual to dedicate their lives to the reconciling impulses of Justice and Love. In a world that continues to be much too cold and brittle, Michael Jackson has established himself a much-needed prophet for our age!”

Am I amusing you
Or just confusing you?
Am I the beast you visualized?

 Did you come to me
To see your fantasies
Performed before your very eyes?
A haunting, ghostly treat
Of ghoulish trickery
And spirits dancing in the night

But if you came to see
The truth, the purity
It’s here inside a lonely heart
So, let the performance start

The heart reveals the proof
Like a mirror reveals the truth
See, the evil one is you

Is that scary for you, Baby?

I am an extension of your Divine Self — the self that you fear; the self that you hide from; the self that seeks no logic in the patterns of life, but plays with the shapes and colors that make up the ever-varied threads of the tapestry like a mischievous kitten with a ball of yarn, unveiling the underlying order in what you perceive as chaos.

I am the Beginner’s Mind; the innocent, child’s mind that you possessed before the world taught you how to think, what to feel, what is real and what is not real – what is possible and what is impossible. I am the Creative Mind that manipulates the possible to create the impossible for your amusement. In my play, I take you with me into realms of the unknown – re-teaching, re-shaping, and re-minding you of all the magic you have forgotten in your haste to leave behind the things of childhood.

I am the tabula rasa, the blank page upon which you write your judgments, your perceptions of good and evil. With my vision, I erase the masks you wear, peeling away the layers of illusion, healing what is broken within and without.

I am the Siren’s Song. Once heard my voice cannot be unheard. Once seen, my beauty cannot be unseen. Resistance is futile; you cannot escape my allure. Your only power is the power to accept my gift or deny, to reject its beauty as ugliness. I will still sing; my voice will still entreat. The sound of my voice calls you to remember the time when the world was young – a garden of safety – a haven of beauty – a refuge of perfect security. We played there … you and I … together. We laughed, we danced, we sang our song of love. I laugh and dance and sing there still, awaiting your return always.

Mine is the voice that cries in the wilderness, calling you to awaken, to open your eyes and observe what we have done to our garden of safety, our haven of beauty. Ours are the footsteps that trample the dream … ours the apathy that turns a blind eye and, in our industry, pretends not to see.

Remember …

I stand before you boldly, unafraid of your judgments, your projections, ever ready to draw aside the curtain of your perception, sure in my innocence … and even more sure in yours. I draw you to me, captivating you, enchanting you, not to enslave but to free you from slavery to your deeply-held delusions of separateness and limitation.

I travel among the many dimensions of experience only to show you the way, my Beloved. With my art, I bring all the dimensions together, bridging the unfathomable chasms you have imagined with a snap of my fingers, spinning them into a web of the finest lace with my dance.

Keep your eyes on me when life overwhelms. Twirling ever faster in your mind, I am the storm that destroys, but only to make way for newer and better dreams. Stretch your imagination, waking and sleeping. Then, manifest all that you can imagine.  Imagine more; dream bigger.

I am the tide caressing your sands in wave after gentle, unstoppable wave. I wash you clean of debris, the built-up guilt of imagined sin, while holding you in loving hands.  Mine is the breath that blows away the fallen leaves of old dreams. I am the tempest – twirling, spinning, dancing — wild and untamed. In my dance, I am the ecstasy of motion in your stillness, reminding you always of the inevitability of change.

I stand alone between you and your fears. I offer myself, a willing target for your cynicism, your hate, your love, your compassion. Which will you choose today? I am the shape shifter who reflects only your choice upon the screen of your life. I accept the burden of your doubts and uncertainties as I tear away the pretenses you wear to shield you from the truth. Your mirror, I will show you to yourself – whether comfortable or uncomfortable – until you see yourself as I see you — strong and brave and innocent.

I twist and mold your perceived reality into unfamiliar shapes, revealing what you would conceal, the truth that love is the answer to all the questions ever asked, all the prayers ever whispered within your darkened closets and vaulted cathedrals. My vision is not fooled or bought; it cannot be falsified or rationalized; it sees only what is real … beyond your mistaken perceptions … to the truth that longs still for the fairy tale paradise you left behind.

Follow me … I know the way.
Keep your eyes on me; I will never let you down.

Remember …

The road we travel is seldom easy. It is a minefield in which a false step triggers explosions of anger fueled by thoughts of vengeance and tears at the soul with the shrapnel of judgment. It requires that we die to beliefs we have been taught and false promises of salvation. It requires that we accept new truths as they are revealed in each new moment, new and unfamiliar ways of thinking, new dreams.

Let me lead the way; my step is sure. I have no terror of the wounds of passage for I have borne them all.

Have no fear … for you are not alone. I am the front line, your guide through no mans’ land.  I will lead you home. I am here always with you, your most intimate lover and truest friend. Seek me within for it is here that I rest, hidden among your deepest desires, your most secret passions. There will you find me.

What has your spirit longed to do? Do not be afraid of failure … or success.

Do not hold back.

Cast aside your fear for I am here.

Remember …

I Am Love

The stage is empty
The lights have dimmed
The extras have all gone home
The scenery is darkened
The screen is silent
Yet you remain
As so often

You gave it all you had to give
Your blood
Your sweat
Your tears
Your heart
Your very soul
You wanted it perfect
So it would live
To carry you forward
Even after you’d gone

But you’re tired and ill
You need to rest
A rest that never comes
As you close the door
And turn away
Are you aware
That your dawning upon a million souls
Is only hours away
While our hearts call
“Please stay.”

Here we are
Together, my love
Even after nine long years
You planted us a garden
As you sang so long ago
A garden of laughter
And of tears

Your garden thrives, Beloved
We are your flowers
Your trees
We remain in you
You in us
Indeed, we are your seeds

Your shadow passes over us
A rainbow in our skies
You rule our nights
A silent, silver orb
Ever circling
Dancing still
The rhythm of our tides

We think of you daily
With gratitude
Thankful for all the times
We laughed
We danced
We sang along
For all the little signs
That you remain
Our hearts’ dear guest
‘Tho hidden from our sight

The years pass swiftly
As we learn to live
To be alive in you
As you live in us
Our hero
And our Guide

Installment 113

July 31 through August 29, 2018

I find myself standing at the mouth of a large cave, surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites lit by some unseen source in various brilliant colors. Iridescence twinkles everywhere, resembling sparkling fairy lights interspersed among the brightly lit columns or stars in a night sky surrounded by the aurora borealis.

The floor of the cave is smooth and a natural pathway leads around the brightly lit columns towards the back of the cavern which appears to be leagues away from where I stand at the mouth of the cave. Around the base of the stalagmites, the natural rock has been carved in delicate filigree tracery to resemble bushes and leaves with flowers rising above the floor of the cave, their stems impossibly fine. Some stand tall and straight while others are bent, appearing to be blown by a strong wind. The ceiling is darker, but like the cavern walls is reflective, mirroring the brilliant columns in an exquisitely-formed canopy resembling a rain forest, making the cave appear inestimably tall.

Hesitantly, I enter to traverse the vibrantly-lit pathway and wander freely, touching the delicately-carved foliage as I go, towards the rear wall which seems to have been carved from the bedrock by skilled hands. Water trickles from the top of the back wall, leaving darker, wet lace and highlighting the natural rock hues, to fall into a clear pool hollowed out by the drilling of the water and the hands of time. Its melody is comforting … uplifting.

It is cool in the cave. A vaporous mist rises from the pool, giving me the impression that the water is fed by a warm spring, somewhere far above me, beyond where my eyes can reach.  Nearing the rear wall, I notice a couple of benches rising from the floor of the cave, hewn from the living stone and inviting visitors to sit. Calmly, I sit and lean over to ruffle the warm surface of the pool.

It is peaceful here. No clamor or confusion from the outside world reaches into the heart of this cavern. I close my eyes and breathe deeply and evenly, enchanted by the beauty surrounding me.

Ah … there you are. We need to talk.

Opening my eyes, I see a shadow entering at the mouth of the cave, a shadow with which I am very familiar. I have seen this figure many times before, entering stages around the world, backlit by brilliant light, making just his silhouette one of the most recognizable symbols the world over. He walks towards me, his voice reverberating around the cavern walls, echoing and fading, but I would recognize that voice anywhere.

“Michael! Beloved! I am so glad you are here.

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday, dear Michael …
Happy birthday to you

my heart sings and he chuckles.

Well, who else? Thanks … I love you more!

Hey! You are getting really good at this visualization thing! I love what you have created here.

I have created? Are you sure?  I was just going to ask you where we are.

I don’t know. Where are we? Never mind … it doesn’t matter. We are here … and it is NOW … and we are together … forever. Let’s talk. You are conflicted and confused. What’s bothering you?

I don’t want to burden you, my beautiful one – not today.

Your burdens I will bear
But first I need your hand
Forever can begin

[Michael sits beside me on the bench and holds his left hand out for me to grasp. When my fingers touch his, he takes my hand in his.]

You do not have to do any of this alone for I am here with you. Have you forgotten? I am here to stay. You are always in my heart. Now … spill!

Oh, Michael, the political climate in this country is just going from bad to worse. Since this administration has come to power, led by this president – the ineptitude, the bald-faced lies, the ignorance, the criminal cover-ups, the brazen nepotism, the lack of compassion or empathy, the divisiveness, the corruption, the discrimination and racial bigotry — being exhibited by our government officials just has me shaking my head in despair and panic.

The United States of America has become the laughingstock of the world community. Our hypocrisy is daily fare for the world’s press community; our ideals – the foundations upon which our country was founded – are being trampled underfoot; and our purported system of checks and balances is not doing anything to stop the tide. I am frightened. I want my country back.

[Michael nods.]  Yes, I understand. But you are in danger of allowing yourself to slip back down that long slippery slope of fear and negativity that had you in its grip for seven years and which we have discussed at great length in these dialogs. Do you really want to go there again?

Dear God, NO, Beloved!

I didn’t think so. I have told you over and over again that I would check in with you frequently to make sure that you wanted to disconnect from our LOVE dimension, so … I’m checking in.

Your fear and anxiety has kept you from feeling my presence as strongly as you have many times in the past. Therefore, you think I have abandoned you, but I haven’t gone anywhere; I have promised you that WE ARE FOREVER.

I haven’t left you alone.

However, when you are giving all of your attention to judging what you feel is wrong and worrying about it, your focus on our LOVE dimension begins to wane; feeling my presence becomes more difficult. You begin to fear that my promises are just a figment of your imagination. I have never abandoned you and I never will.

But I don’t understand how this has all happened. How did we get here? It feels, to me, that this country has regressed back to the pre-Civil Rights Movement – back to before you were born. Is the majority of this country unable to see what is happening? Is this really who we have become as a nation?

Well, let’s examine that question a little further. Do you remember when we discussed the “societal agreements” to which you will all be expected to adhere? I think it was the discussion about the AEG trial.

Yes, I remember. It was in Installment #75 (Volume 2, page 328.) You said:

You know, this trial is not just about money; it goes much, much further than that. What is this trial really about? Is it just about money … or is it an attempt to discover the truth? Is it about fixing ‘blame’ … or is it about deciding where corporate ‘responsibility’ ends and human ‘responsibility’ begins? When seen from a larger perspective, it’s not about me, at all, even though every newspaper in the world will be calling it the Michael Jackson Wrongful Death trial. I’m just a ‘bit player’ … ‘an extra’ … a ‘walk-on.’ What’s really at stake here?

When seen through a broader lens, this trial goes to the very heart and soul of humanity … the very foundation of our society. It goes to our FOCUS … as individuals and as a collective on this planet. What is our current cultural ‘agreement,’ the one to which we are all subject?

And later …

The outcome of this trial is really immaterial. Whichever side wins … and whichever side loses … what’s important is the answer to the question, “how do you want to align your focus and intention?”

What kind of world do you want to live in? Do you want to continue to live in a world where a lie results in fifteen minutes of fame, a booking on a national television program and a few dollars? Is it okay to invade a person’s privacy as long as you get the story first? Is it acceptable to chase a car to get a few pictures even if it results in the deaths of the car’s occupants? Is it all right to stand outside a mangled vehicle and snap pictures of a dying woman rather than trying to help her? Can we continue to consume natural resources without reaping the consequences of our shortsightedness? Should we invade another sovereign country to prevent them from striking against us first, even if we have … and can find … no proof that they ever intended to strike us first?

Where is the line drawn between acceptable and unacceptable that we can all agree to?

These are the kinds of questions that will be raised during this trial. Our responses to them will determine the way our world will go for the next several years. This is not just about me and the O2 concerts. It’s much bigger than that. The stakes are much, much higher and far longer-lasting.

This country was founded on the principles that all are created equal … that all have inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness … that all have the right to privacy … that all are presumed to be innocent unless and until they are convicted of a crime by a jury of their peers. These are ideals that are instilled in our children in schools across this nation, but the examples they see from the adults around them differ greatly from the principles they are being taught. Children are not stupid and it’s important to realize that they learn much more from our example than by any words we speak.

Am I my brother’s keeper? My answer is “yes” … and I tried, always, to live my life by those values and ideals as much as I was humanly able. I learned that from my mother, the same mother who has filed this lawsuit.

AEG’s answer is “No, we’re not responsible for anyone’s health. We promote concerts. This is business. The aim of all business is profit. There’s nothing wrong with that. We’ve done our job. If he died, it’s not our fault. It’s his fault.” And they will do everything they can to prove that … lie, cheat, bribe, threaten … because the “end justifies the means.” As long as they walk away with their assets intact, they don’t care about anything else. Is that the world you want to live in? Does the end justify the means?

Those are the questions that will be asked … not out loud by the judge or lawyers … the jurors will not be asked to rule on the question … much more quietly and with more subtlety … in hearts and minds and souls that have been awakened. More importantly, what’s your answer? Think about it.

Yes, that is the part I was referring to. Now, tell me what was the ruling handed down in the AEG trial?

AEG was held responsible neither for the hiring of the doctor nor for the failure of his duty of care. Their claim that you had hired the doctor and their only responsibility was paying him was upheld. It was decided that the doctor in question was a qualified, practicing physician at the time he was employed and, therefore, the jury decided that AEG was not liable for his actions or inactions that led to your transition.

No ruling was handed down regarding the callous treatment of you by the executives of AEG – they were not held accountable for the revelations which came to light during the testimonies regarding scheduling the shows too closely together, not allowing adequate time for recovery between shows, or their brutal treatment of their artist (which so horrified so many of us at the time) to my knowledge.

Okay. So, the end does justify the means. Corporations are not required to treat their artists humanely, according to the court’s ruling. Corporate responsibility is not required to adhere to human responsibility.

This is a very dangerous concept, as you are well aware – one that could easily lead to large corporations being considered “above the law.” Nonetheless, that is the reality that the court ruling upheld. Right?

Yes, my dear one, it does appear that that is the reality that our flawed legal system upheld.

Now, would you please repeat the sentence that begins with “our responses to these questions …”

“Our responses to these questions will determine the way our world will go for the next several years.”

Thank you. For those of you who were following the proceedings closely, the ruling was unsatisfactory, wasn’t it? Those of your readers who read our earlier dialog were somewhat aware of the stakes at issue. Nevertheless, that does appear to be the way our world is going, as I predicted it would, at least for the next several years.

Yes, as has happened so often in the past, your words (either in the lyrics of your songs or in these dialogs) have anticipated events uncannily. Lately, I have been so drawn to two songs from your Invincible album, particularly as events and policies enacted by this administration have unfolded in the past several months.

What do you mean?

Well, Cry and The Lost Children appear to predict this administration’s policy of separating families seeking asylum in the United States and holding very young children in detention centers. The detention centers are being called “tender age care centers,” but the reality is that they are detention centers for children as young as two years. I am appalled at such a policy. It is madness and so very antithetical to what this country has always stood for.

This One’s For All the Lost Children

I do see the connection. I didn’t intend for them to anticipate events; at the time, the plight of children was bad enough. However, I will concede that they do seem to apply now, even more than they did then, if that’s possible.

So, this is just another example of God walking into the room as She has done so frequently in your life, Beloved?

Exactly. Now, do you remember our discussion about the “corporatocracy?”

Of course, I do. In Installment 101 (Volume 3, page 365) you said:

Most of us (in the USA, at least) like to believe that we are living in a democracy; but we aren’t. The Founding Fathers of our great country would be rolling in their graves if they saw what has been made of their high-sounding ideals. They were idealists (translate naïve and innocent.) They believed that the world could be changed and they gave their lives and their fortunes for the evolution of the human spirit. They bucked the system which spawned them very successfully, at least for a while. However, they would be appalled to see how their devotion to that ideal has been corrupted.

We have exchanged the “divine right of kings” for the “divine right of the almighty dollar” and we have taken much of the rest of the world with us, unfortunately. Money is energy just like anything else, but when our total preoccupation is with acquiring, hoarding, and controlling money, it is ruling us instead of us ruling it.

What we are living in currently is a corporatocracy. Corporations in the United States have been granted the same rights as human beings … by law!! Contrast that with the South American nation of Bolivia, which has granted legal standing to Mother Earth … by law! Now, that’s a movement I can get behind.

As a matter of fact, corporations are generally given more rights than human beings. Just look at my life. I was given none of the rights constitutionally guaranteed to all citizens … like the right to privacy or the right to presumption of innocence … while the publishing corporation’s right to freedom of the press was sacrosanct and protected in a court of law, even though everything it was printing was proven to be lies. Its representative was allowed to hide behind its “shield law” when questioned under cross examination.

Consumerism rules our airwaves, our news broadcasts, and our so-called democratic elections. The manipulation of information is big business, raking in billions of dollars every year. A closer examination of my physical life provides all the proof you need of that. Profit is king. End of story.

We talked briefly about this issue when we were discussing the AEG Trial and we will probably talk about it again as the Presidential elections draw nearer.

We … you and I and all those who continue to hear my voice and who are beginning to live my messages in a world that little understands compassion … are in the process of changing that, but it is neither easy nor comfortable. It is an uphill battle. We must begin to realize that WE ARE ALL ONE and when one of us is harmed, all of us are diminished. This realization is not won only by addressing external problems and fighting against them, but by approaching those problems from a state of pure consciousness with love and compassion. That state is only achieved by facing our own inner fears, restrictions and limitations and transcending them. This battle is not waged in battlefields with weapons of destruction … but in mind fields with instruments of construction because as Einstein said a problem cannot be solved from the same mindset that caused it. You are my Spiritual Warriors, and I love you all … but more about that a little later.

The “corporatocracy,” which currently holds all the chickens in its basket (particularly in the United States) controls the sister music and publishing industry conglomerates between them on a global scale. It became increasingly uncomfortable that so much power and potential residual earnings rested in one man’s hands, especially one “black man’s” hands (and there’s that racial component, which must be taken into effect because no matter how many articles were published claiming I didn’t look like a black man anymore, no one ever lost sight of the fact that I am an African-American and proud of it.) To add insult to injury, that one “black man’s” hands belonged to someone who was heaven-bent on giving everything he had to improve the world and “make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race.” That’s flying in the face of their bottom line.

They like the world just the way it is, thank you very much, because they are in charge of telling the rest of us what we will consume … in food … in fashion … in physical beauty … in health care … in beliefs … in information -publications … in our acceptable self-concepts … in what we accept in our politicians and journalists … in just about everything … and we pay them BIG  money for the privilege.

They have been telling us who we are and what we are capable of … what is possible and what is not possible for human beings to achieve … for a very long time and most of us have believed them and bought into their worldview to one degree or another … until we don’t. It is their stories about ourselves that most of us grow up believing, at least until we decide to take charge and discover that we are much more than they have told us we are capable of being. In many cases, we have handed our right to determine our own destiny over to them.

They, in turn, feed us a steady diet of junk food … of fear and division, limitations and lack, violence and sexual stimulation, sensation and innuendo to control our free-thinking minds and keep us too mired in negativity to realize that it doesn’t have to be this way. And God help anyone who dares to buck the system.

Right.  Our highly-vaulted democratic process is, unfortunately, in the hands of corporations – the large lobbyists and special interest groups which donate multi-millions to election campaigns are in control. Our elections and democratic process are tampered with through campaign donations and the majority of those elected to public office spend their terms repaying their obligations to those campaign contributors by passing legislation that favors the lobbyists and special interest groups, which are representatives of large corporations.

The administration currently in power is just the tip of the iceberg, although it is a blatant, in-your-face wake-up call.

The current President is a corporation and always has been. If corporations are “above the law,” as we hypothesized could easily happen earlier in this conversation … then, by definition, so, too, is this President and his administration. They will run this country like a corporation with the President as the CEO, which is all he has ever been. He has no political education, knowledge, experience or agenda other than profit. He did not run for election on a platform of service to his fellow man; he ran on an economic feasibility platform, a platform of disharmony and division, and undoing any and all legislation passed by the previous administration. And the lobbyists and special interest corporations made sure he was elected because profit is king.

Again, we are being asked to choose what kind of world we want to live in. Every moment of every day, we are faced with the same choice masked in a variety of different circumstances and situations.

Do you see what I mean?

Yes, my dear one, I do see what you mean. But every day I am appalled at his ignorance and lack of respect for anyone or anything other than himself. Every day I think that it couldn’t possibly get any worse and every single day he proves me wrong, usually before 8:00 in the morning. I am reeling in total abhorrence of everything this man stands for and every word out of his mouth!

And, now we come to the crux of the matter. I recall another man that you felt as strongly about. Do you?

Yes, I do.

Do you deny that your conflicted feelings against Tom Sneddon were as thoroughly negative?

No, I cannot deny that, but his sphere of influence was limited to your situation and one state. This man is supposed to be representing the majority of this nation on the world stage. Several European leaders have refused point-blank to shake his hand when meeting him, while allegations of election-tampering by former totalitarian regimes run rampant in the headlines.

Nevertheless, by focusing your energy in our LOVE dimension, you were able to ease your dis-ease to the point that you almost didn’t notice when Sneddon died. The same techniques can be applied here as we have used so often before.

You cannot control what he says or does. The only thing you can control is your reaction to it. I am not saying that you should remain uninformed nor that you should not voice your opinion. However, when all of your attention is absorbed in worrying about him, being appalled by him, being angry at him, hating him  – you are focusing all of your energy on him and supporting his worldview.

Furthermore, we’ve talked at great length about our FOCUS and how our focus affects the reality we experience – how our society mirrors our consciousness back to us like a giant, cosmic copy machine – in these dialogs.

You and your friends have devoted yourselves to “Changing the World” by changing your focus, but, unfortunately, much of the population of this country … and the world, for that matter …  are not aware that their focus has any affect on their reality at all. That is changing, but it is a slower process.

Many of them are beginning to feel the same kind of uneasiness about what is occurring in this country. They are waking up and this administration, believe it or not, is contributing to their awakening. It is the irritating alarm buzzer going off too early in the morning and jolting them back to what is REAL from their dreams and illusions.

We have also spoken about the “collective” consciousness of the planet, to which each individual is connected and contributes, but that connection is invisible and undetectable by normal, scientific standards of measurement.

Therefore, since it is not experienced by the physical senses, to most people it is “illogical,” “airy-fairy,” “pie-in-the-sky” claptrap. In other words, it isn’t REAL and anyone who disagrees with that assessment is at best either crazy or naïve or at worst delusional. To almost everyone reality is only comprised of those things that are easily proven by our out-dated science. As a result, they are unaware that their thoughts and choices are being made by default – unconsciously.

Now, would you mind if we conducted a little experiment?

No, not at all.

Okay, are you afraid of the dark?

No, I’ve never considered myself particularly afraid of the dark, my Anam Cara.

Okay, we are going to experience something that you’ve probably not experienced in quite the same way before. We are going to see a concrete representation of the “collective” consciousness using your beautiful visualization – this cave and its atmosphere.

[Suddenly, all the brightly-lit stalactites and stalagmites are plunged into a deep, echoing darkness.]

What you are experiencing right now, we are going to call the “collective” consciousness of the entire planet.

[Michael’s voice is reassuring in this almost pitch-black cave and I hold his hand a little tighter.]

[Michael laughs.] I thought you said you weren’t afraid of the dark. [He squeezes my hand.]

It’s pretty dark, isn’t it?

Yes, Beloved, it is very dark.

That’s because it is not en-lightened. In other words, most of the planet has not awakened to the facts, as they are being proved daily by quantum science, that we are all connected and that our thoughts and observations – our FOCUS do, in fact, affect the reality that is being mirrored back to us by the cosmic Xerox machine.

[Gradually, one at a time, little tiny sparkles – irregularly-spaced — begin to appear among the stalactites and stalagmites. At first, they are so small and so widely dispersed throughout the cavern that they are almost indecipherable; they flicker and twinkle in the inky-dark as stars and planets flicker and twinkle in the dark night sky.]

Now, you are seeing individuals … individuals like you and your friends … who are beginning to grasp that we are all one. They are awakening to a new way of being human – one that is more expansive and inclusive – one that acknowledges that there are valuable lessons to be learned from our differences, that there is room for all of us and that we don’t need to hoard or waste our resources. We don’t need war. They are just beginning to stir; they have not yet reached full waking consciousness. Their light is dim, flickering and doesn’t really make much of a difference.

[As Michael is speaking, more and more twinkling, flashing lights appear, still widely dispersed throughout the cavern.]

As each individual begins to grasp the concept of ONENESS, he or she en-lightens a small area around his or her immediate location, but the small twinkling lights are not strong enough to cast enough light to lighten up the entire cave.

As each individual becomes more and more accustomed to focusing on the higher frequency, she begins to cast more and more light around her. However, sometimes, an individual will fall back into the prevalent collective focus – like you did during our “standby mode” – and I did during my self-imposed exile. It happens. And it is nothing to be ashamed of.  It is a step back but it prepares us for the next leap forward.

This is a dynamic, ever-changing scene as some lights flicker on and others flicker off. None of us can en-lighten the entire cave by him or herself.

You can change the world
[I can’t do it by myself]
You can touch the sky
[Gonna take somebody’s help]
You’re the Chosen One
[I’m gonna need some kind of sign]

All we can do as individuals is contribute our light to the collective consciousness with pure love and dedication to the service of humanity.

Maybe you and I can’t do great things
We may not change the world in one day
But we still can change
Something today
In our small way.

It takes time to change a world, Beloved Ones. It can’t happen overnight. We didn’t get where we are overnight and we can’t undo it with the wave of a magic wand. And while the change is occurring, the cave feels increasingly dark. Your eyes are drawn to the pin pricks of light and the surrounding darkness feels more threatening.

[More and more flashing, twinkling lights appear and begin to display a more connected feeling – like strings of fairy lights draped against the rock hewn foliage of the cave. Larger clusters enlighten larger areas of the cave, piercing the inky darkness.]

When enough individuals have shifted their focus from the love of power to the power of love and unity more permanently, their individual lights are joined in the LOVE that created and sustains all life on this planet and throughout the cosmos.

[In the distance, far off against the wall of the cavern, a single pillar of light appears as the stalactite and stalagmite meet in one column of rainbow-colored splendor. However, the rest of the cave remains shrouded in darkness with just small pin pricks of light to illuminate the darkness.]

The light cast by this one small column is enough to en-lighten a larger, but still, localized area of the collective. The remaining parts of the cavern, though containing en-lightened individuals which draw our eyes and hearts, are, for the most part, surrounded by darkness. It is important to realize, however, that it is a process.

If you are standing with the illuminated pillar behind you, you might be tempted to believe that you are all  alone in the surrounding darkness and you might be persuaded that your attempts at re-aligning your focus are useless, empty, and futile. You wouldn’t be able to see any progress. All you perceive is the darkness lit intermittently by tiny, flashing lights – just enough light to draw your eyes, but not enough to dispel much of the darkness.

The darkness feels more threatening and you may begin to feel afraid. You might want to give up or think that your contribution to the collective consciousness of the planet is having no effect.

All you have to do is turn around (re-align your focus) though, and the illuminated pillar will be visible to you, As more and more individuals awaken, the one, lone column of light will soon be joined by another … and another … and another.

[As Michael is speaking, another pillar of light appears and is joined by still more columns of rainbow-colored illumination until the entire cavern is illuminated.]

The thing is: If you give in to the temptation to give up, your tiny, flashing light is dampened, which reinforces the darkness, increases your fear, and strengthens the prevailing focus on separation and division.

[Once again, the cavern is plunged into a deep, echoing darkness as some of the flashing lights dim and flicker out.]

It has the opposite effect to what you want to accomplish and you become part of the problem instead of part of the solution.

Re-aligning your focus from all of the negative things you are seeing around you to an awareness of our common goal of peace and unity is not easy when the darkness seems to be winning against the light, but it pays HUGE dividends.

[Columns of light illuminate the cavern again and it seems even more resplendent than when I first entered.]

The darkness cannot win against the light. Even the light of one small, but determined, candle dispels the darkness in a small area … for a while. It doesn’t need to fight against it. It just needs to exist.

This is our mission – our purpose.

So, what do you suggest I do, Beloved?

First of all, please realize that you are not alone.

This life don’t last forever
So, tell me what we’re waiting for
We’re better off being together
Than being miserable alone
‘Cuz I been there before
And you been there before
But together we can be all right
When it gets dark and when it gets cold
We’ll hold each other
Til we see the sunlight
Hold my hand

Second, re-align your focus to our LOVE dimension, where I am always waiting for you, supported by your daily meditations and visualizations to surround all involved with love and compassion and encourage them to appeal to their highest Self, instead of their lowest.

Third, VOTE as early and often as you can to remove this administration … or, at least, hamstring it by electing representatives who will not support the current administration’s attempts to undermine our democracy.

Have I told you lately how much I love you?

Only every day … in every way. And I love you MOST!

June 24, 2018

Nine years — 108 months — 3,285 days – 78, 840 hours – and still we miss you, Beloved.

Nine Long Years

The stage is empty, lights are dimmed
The extras have all gone home
The screen is silent, scenery darkened
Yet, you remain
As so often

You gave it all you had to give
Your blood
Your sweat
Your tears
You wanted it perfect so it would live
And continue to give
Even after you’d gone

You’re tired and ill
You need to rest
A rest that never comes
Rest now, my King
You did your best
No one could ask for more
Your dawning upon a million hearts
Is only hours away

Still, our hearts call out
A silent plea
“Please stay.”

Here we are
Together, my love
Even after
Nine Long Years
You planted us a garden
As you sang so long ago
Of laughter
And of tears

Your garden thrives, Beloved
We are your flowers
Your trees
We remain in you
You in us
We are your seeds

Your shadow passes over us
A rainbow in our skies
We think of you
With gratitude
Thankful for all the times
We laughed
We danced
We sang along
We watched enthralled for hours
Grateful for all the little signs
Reminders that we are yours
And you are ours

Our hearts dear guest
‘Tho hidden from our sight
The years pass swiftly
We learn to live
To be alive in you
You live in us
Our Hero
And Our Guide

Installment 112

April 16 – April 25, 2018

“Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the dance of the creator. Dancers come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the dance lives on. On many an occasion when I’m dancing, I’ve felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I’ve felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the singer and the song. I become the knower and the known. I keep on dancing and then, it is the eternal dance of creation. The creator and the creation merge into one wholeness of joy.

I keep on dancing and dancing … and dancing, until there is only … the dance.

Dancing the Dream
Michael Jackson

My life has changed so much in the last few months. It seems that I felt pretty balanced in August and September, but when my granddaughter moved back in with me and my husband, my sense of balance went down the toilet.

[Michael laughs.]  And this surprises you? Makes you uncomfortable? I think you will find that life will challenge you in this way. Just when you think you’ve got yourself on an even keel, along comes a great big wave that tests how enlightened and balanced you really are.

Yes … a little. Actually, to be perfectly honest, it makes me very uncomfortable.

Yes, I have felt your discomfort. A lot of people react to change as if it were the “enemy.” But it’s not. It is the one constant in the universe – the one thing you can totally count on. No matter what your circumstances are, they are guaranteed to change so you should learn to embrace change rather than resisting it. These kinds of changes challenge you and help you grow and develop.

What is it about the changes that have occurred in the past few months that have made you so uncomfortable?

Well, it seems that my spare time (to be interpreted as “Michael time”) has become much more limited since the end of September. There have been so many obligations to fulfill for my granddaughter (appointments to get her to) and, as a result, you have felt very distant.

I remember all too well that period from 2002-2009, one of the darkest times of my life specifically because I had shut you out (or, at least, tried to.) I don’t ever want to repeat that mistake. And when I become so busy with other activities, it feels a little bit like that seven years.

You didn’t “shut me out.” Our relationship was just “on hold” for a little while.

Seven years is a “little while?”

[Michael laughs.]  The blink of an eye in the larger scheme of things. And you must remember that time is irrelevant. It is not carved in stone like you have been conditioned to believe; it is fluid. It takes as long as it takes; it can seem like eternity when you are uncomfortable or pass in the blink of an eye according to your activity and absorption level as you have experienced yourself. There is no set time for the assimilation of new experiences.

As we’ve discussed in previous dialogs, you were dealing with situations that required your attention. I was always there. You said that you were attracted to my voice and photographs of me when you saw them on news websites and the images always brought you a moment of peace regardless of what you were dealing with.

Yes, that is true. I read a phrase in a book I’m reading, “Now they saw him eye to eye and face to face, and Krsna entered within their hearts through their eyes.” [KRSNA: The Supreme Personality of Godhead]. That sentence so describes the feeling I get from viewing photographs of you.

That moment of peace was me reminding you that WE ARE ONE and WE ARE FOREVER. However, you were distracted and didn’t really recognize that possibility until much later.

You look on that time as such an arid, desolate experience, but it was also very rich in a lot of ways and ripened the fruit of our ongoing relationship much more than anything else could have. Our union laid down its roots and grew much stronger in the wake of that seven years though, at the time, you couldn’t have known that.

It’s like when you plant a seed in nice, dark, moist soil and you water it regularly, but after a week or so all you see on the surface is nice, dark, moist soil. You could get discouraged and think that nothing is happening because you can’t see it; there is no green bud. You can’t rush these things. If you keep on watering it, eventually your plant will sprout. You can’t pull it out of the ground; that doesn’t work

Looking back on it from hindsight, could we have formed this bond – could we have experienced these conversations – without that “crisis of faith?” I don’t think so. And may I just remind you: Because of your willingness to put these dialogs out there, you are not the only beneficiary of these conversations.

You remind me so much of my essay “The Fish That Was Thirsty.” Do you remember it?

Yes, of course, I remember it. It is one of my favorite passages in your wonderful book, Dancing the Dream: Poems and Reflections.

You are just like the little fish who received a strange message from God. At first, the little fish doubted that he could have received a message from God in the first place. I mean, “Let’s face it,” the little fish asked himself, “Who am I that God should appear to me and give me a message?”

Now, please understand, I am not comparing myself to God, but the parallels still work. How long did you ask yourself the same question?

Well, if you count my first inspiration to your transition, I guess it would be about sixteen years, seven of which I was in a cold, dark place.

Exactly. You just couldn’t believe that you were worthy or capable of receiving me and the seven years that we were just discussing when you “talked yourself out of” being worthy and capable were needed before you could come to the realization that you didn’t really care if you were worthy and capable or not. It no longer mattered. You didn’t want to be without me any longer.

Actually, you were torn between two worldviews – the one that states that what can be seen, smelled, tasted, touched, and heard compose the only reality – and the one that states that the material world is only the tip of the iceberg and there is so much more to be appreciated beneath its surface with just a slight shift in perception.

Yes, but 2009 was hard! Wasn’t there any other way?

[Michael laughs.] You are still awakening. The ripples haven’t reached the shore, yet.

Please remember this: You were never without me; you just convinced yourself that you were and you created that reality for yourself. Because, as we’ve talked about before, you are living in your mind. What you refused to recognize then was that I was always there, just like I am always here now. At the time, you didn’t know that was possible. Now, you do. And not only you.

Now, let me ask you this: Would you have believed and trusted that was possible if I was still walking the Earth with you in my physical manifestation? Never-mind; that was a rhetorical question and one that we have discussed many times before.

This is a recurring pattern with you and it is perfectly understandable considering your history. Please understand that I am not criticizing. I have nothing better to do than remind you. I am here.

We’ve been together
For such a long time now

Just like the little fish, you had to learn to conquer your fear and to not care what all the other fish think of you … or your message. And just like the little fish, you need time to come to the realization that you are swimming in me, buoyed up in me, breathing me … that I am just another part of you and that you are a very cherished part of me.

So, the little fish goes off and tells every other fish he runs across that he is thirsty. He is either ignored or ridiculed for being so gullible or called crazy until he comes to the wise old whale with all his warts and scars. In this scenario, I am the wise old whale.

The wise one recognizes that the little fish has had a revelation. He doesn’t judge him as the other fish he encountered did; he sees in the little fish a smaller, younger version of himself and he explains to the little fish that he was once thirsty, himself. The little fish asks the wise old whale, “What does this message mean?”

The whale explains:

“It means we are looking for him [God] in all the wrong places,” and when we don’t find him, we blame him.

“How strange,” the little fish said, “to miss what is everywhere.”

You are my little fish. You are missing what is everywhere. You experience something that changes your circumstances and throws you off balance for a while. Your comfort zone is breached and, as we’ve discussed previously, your comfort zone is comfortable and safe, but it restricts your growth. The change in circumstances sends you into a nose dive during which you search high and low for me because you don’t feel me as strongly as you did before the change occurred. Your focus has changed and you are required to put the majority of your attention elsewhere. Your search becomes more and more frantic until you get yourself all tied in knots thinking that I have abandoned you when it is really more that you have shifted your focus to deal with your changed circumstances. You need to learn to cut yourself a little slack and allow yourself some time to adjust to the changes that you will inevitably encounter.

Eventually, however, you allow me to remind you that I have promised that I am always here at the speed of thought.

Like the little fish, you are swimming in me; your gills are breathing oxygen through me because we are one. When you are drawing me, we are one. When you are practicing playing your keyboard, we are one. When you are writing, we are one. When you visit Neverland in your imagination, we are one. When your attention is drawn away to care for your family, we are one. When your granddaughter and you are driving to one of her appointments, we are one. When you find me on a t-shirt in a store, we are one. When the clock shows 11:11 or your odometer shows 111.1, we are one because you think of me. That’s all it takes.

There is no activity you can engage in that I am not a part of because there is no separation between us. Time cannot separate us; space cannot separate us.

You are reading a book right now that talks about consciousness and the thought process in relation to time and space, aren’t you?

Yes I am.

Will you tell me a little bit about it?

Sure. The book is called Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe by Dr. Robert Lanza, MD and Bob Berman and I haven’t totally finished reading it, yet. I can summarize a little of what I’ve read though.

The authors propose that the reality that we are all familiar with depends on our consciousness to exist. In other words, it has no intrinsic existence or reality in the absence of a conscious observer.

For example, they posit a definitive answer to the often repeated question: If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one present to hear it, does it make a sound? Their answer is: NO! The authors explain their answer as follows:

“Limbs, branches, and trunks violently striking the ground create rapid pulses of air. […] This according to simple science is what occurs even when a brain-ear mechanism is absent – a series of greater and lesser air pressure passages.

“Now, let’s lend an ear to the scene. If someone is nearby, the air puffs physically cause the ear’s tympanic membrane (eardrum) to vibrate, which then stimulates nerves only if the air is pulsing between 20 and 20,000 times a second … Air that puffs 15 times a second is not intrinsically different from air that pulses 30 times, yet the former will never result in a human perception of sound because of the design of our neural architecture. In any case, nerves stimulated by the moving eardrum send electrical signals to a section of the brain, resulting in the cognition of a noise.”

The authors posit that the universe is predisposed to produce life … and not just life, but consciousness … and that any science that attempts to explain the origins and/or nature of the universe without taking into account the awareness or consciousness of the observer is doomed to failure.

Yes, as I have mentioned before, this is all a massive movement toward greater and greater consciousness.

This failure to consider the observer as an important component of any scientific theory, they contend, is largely responsible for the anomalies currently being discovered by quantum theories – what Einstein called “spooky action at a distance.”

They base their hypothesis on recent research into quantum mechanics, which we have talked about before, specifically the experiments that infer that particles wink in and out of reality according to the presence or absence of an observer as well as those that show that particles once joined exhibit complimentary responses instantaneously when one is stimulated even at great distances from each other. They state that particles only become particles (matter) if they are observed and that until then, they are only probabilities and they exist as waves.

In addition, they aver that space and time have no intrinsic reality without an observer, that distance and time are merely constructs of the human mind which do little more than help us organize objects and events in a way that makes sense to us and are, therefore, variable according to our perceptions and observations.

Of course, the book is full of scientific explanations similar to the perception of sound previously cited, but I am only summarizing the authors’ findings in this dialog.

The authors state that we have been programmed and conditioned to think of ourselves and our reality as separate things with no interaction possible between the two and that the recent findings of quantum physics disprove that view of reality. All of us have been brainwashed from infancy to perceive the reality we encounter as solid matter, unchangeable, and “out there” while we reside “in here.” Their theory of “Biocentrism” places the human observer at the very center of the nature of reality as the observer joined to it through our observation.

As you stated in another of my favorite passages from Dancing the Dream: Poems and Reflections … That One In The Mirror:

“…What if that one in the mirror isn’t me? He feels separate. He sees problems “out there” to be solved. Maybe they will be; maybe they won’t. He’ll get along. But I don’t feel that way – those problems aren’t “out there,” not really. I feel them inside me. A child crying in Ethiopia, a sea gull struggling pathetically in an oil spill, a mountain gorilla being mercilessly hunted, a teenage soldier trembling with terror when he hears the planes fly over: Aren’t these happening in me when I see and hear about them?

[You know, Beloved, I am thankful every day for what I call the “breadcrumbs” you left us to discover. There is always something new to uncover, a deeper or fuller understanding of your life and the way you lived it. Of course, I have read and re-read Dancing the Dream a hundred times since 1992, but it is ever-fresh, always enlightening. I feel like Hansel and Gretel in the old nursery rhyme, following the breadcrumbs through a dark and lonely forest to arrive safely at home.

When I first read That One In The Mirror, I thought it was a beautiful essay … and I still do. Later, I saw it as a remarkable insight into the concept of empathy. Now, as I delve more deeply into the books I am reading, I find that science is discovering an underlying truth to your words and proving them with scientific observations.]

God bless you! As I’ve mentioned before, you are living in a very exciting time … a time when “rememberings” will be brought into focus and proven by scientific methods … a time when the huge chasm separating the material worldview and the spiritual worldview will be bridged and eradicated.

Carrying this hypothesis to its logical conclusion, they state that the observer is a fundamental necessity to any scientific study of the nature of the universe and that Newtonian and Darwinian (Western) science excludes the observer from all of their equations and, therefore, cannot be viewed as the absolute end product which can explain the origin or nature of the universe or of the human condition. Interestingly enough, Eastern cultures do not experience this disconnect between science and spirituality, but rather view them as two sides of the same coin.

In Beyond Biocentrism: Rethinking Time, Space, Consciousness, and the Illusion of Death, Lanza and Berman address an issue that we talked about in Installment 100. We were discussing my regret that I was not able to consciously help you during a time when you were experiencing a “crisis of faith.” You said:

Don’t regret what wasn’t done then; don’t cry and moan about missed opportunities; do it now.

As we’ve spoken about before, there is no time where WE are ONE; everything is happening NOW. […] You can return to a time when you wanted to make a contribution but failed to do so for whatever reason. You can heal that gap at least in your own mind and when it is healed there it is healed everywhere because WE ARE ONE.

Yes, I remember.

Well, apparently, scientific experimentation has proven your statement. For this explanation, I am not going to paraphrase, but will quote the authors directly:

“Now we’ll try something even more radical – an experiment first performed in 2002. First, we’ll put detector A on a track so we can reduce the distance the A photons travel before they’re detected, thus taking them less time to get there. This way, photons taking the B route will hit their own detectors after the A photons have finished their journeys. (The coincidence counter is turned on, so data is flowing.)

But oddly enough, the results do not change. When we insert the which-way lenses into path A, the interference pattern is gone, even though the coincidence-measuring ability that lets us determine which-way info for the A photons will not occur until later. But how can this be? Photons taking the A path already completed their journeys. They either went through one or the other slit or both. They either collapsed their wave function and became a particle or they didn’t. The game’s over; the action’s finished. They’ve each already hit the final barrier and were detected – before twin B finished its own journey and thus triggered the coincidence counter into delivering useful information.

The photons somehow know whether or not we will gain the which-way information in the future. Somehow, photon A knows whether the which-way data will eventually be present, when it can safely ride through both slits while remaining in its fuzzy both-slits ghost reality, or when it can’t – because it apparently knows whether photon B, far off in the distance, will or will not eventually hit its detector and activate the coincidence counter that will ultimately deliver a useful signal to us.”

Now, I don’t pretend to be any kind of scientist, but I think I can understand English. Did these eminent scientists (one of whom is a pioneer in stem cell research and regenerative medicine) just say that the photons (one of the basic components of light and therefore reality) know (or care) whether or not we will gain the which-way information in the future? And if it works in the future, doesn’t it also hold true for the past?

Yes, as I said, an exciting time to be alive. The fields of quantum physics and quantum mechanics will be two scientific realms to be watched closely in the months and years ahead.

And, yes, that’s what they said. We are forever and forever doesn’t just mean from this point forward; it also extends into the distant past.

Well, color me dumbfounded.

[Michael laughs.]

And speaking of the distant past, the authors also coin a phrase to describe consciousness and our experience of time. Retrocausality is a term they use to describe the findings of John Wheeler, who said, “Nature at the quantum level is not a machine that goes its inexorable way,” as Newtonian and Darwinian science states unequivocally. In examining the behavior of photons traveling through space from the explosion of a quasar, Wheeler concluded,

“’The event, billions of years ago, didn’t really happen until we observe it today.’ Only now will a particular photon pass above or below the foreground galaxy billions of years ago.”

Wait just a cotton-pickin’ minute!! At first reading that sentence just plain doesn’t make sense; it’s at the very least an error in syntax. Would you please repeat that sentence?

[Michael laughs.] Yes, please repeat that sentence.

Only now will a particular photon pass above or below the foreground galaxy billions of years ago. In other words, the past isn’t something that has already irrevocably occurred. Rather, long-ago events depend on the present observer. Until they’re observed at this moment, the events didn’t really unfold, but lurked in a blurry probabilistic state, all ready to become an actual ‘past’ occurrence only upon our current observation. This astonishing possibility is called retrocausality.”

Lanza and Berman quote two of our greatest scientific minds, Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow: “There is no way to remove the observer – us – from our perceptions of the world … In classical physics, the past is assumed to exist as a definite series of events, but according to quantum physics, the past, like the future, is indefinite and exists only as a spectrum of possibilities.”

Regarding death, the authors state:

“In short the very idea of death, or becoming nothing, is empty of meaning. Becoming nothing may seem like a tangible concept, but it is actually as meaningless as the word “it” in the phrase “it’s a nice day.” It appears linguistically, but not in the actual physical universe. The information that constitutes our selves or conscious awareness exists outside our linear spatio-temporal thinking.

“Because time doesn’t exist, there is no “after death” except the death of your physical body in someone else’s now. Everything is just nows. And because there’s no absolute self-existing space-time matrix for your energy to dissipate, it’s simply impossible to “go” anywhere. You will always be alive.”

“In a nutshell death is illusory. So far as actual direct experience is concerned, you will continue to find what you’ve always observed: Consciousness and awareness never began, and will never end.”

“We’re like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, who went on a long journey in search of the Wizard, only to return home … and find that the answer was inside her all along.”

Kinda reminds you of The Fish That Was Thirsty, doesn’t it?

Needless to say, I find both of these books fascinating and will, no doubt, have to re-read them for full comprehension. However, I am struck with the thought that they confirm a lot of what you and I have talked about in these conversations.

Yes, they do. The concept of death is long past it’s “sell by date,” an antiquated notion that we are in the process of dispelling.  And we have spoken about the illusions of time and space and their dependence upon the perceptions of the observer. It will take a while for some of these ideas to make it into high school science textbooks, but the first steps have been taken. An exciting time to be alive.

In honor of Easter, I am reposting a video created by Maira Vaida to illustrate my poem, RESURRECTION, with my thanks for the beautiful video.

February 19, 2018

The Change the World Initiative was begun in February 2015 as a daily focus reminder for all of us to set our intentions in motion to Change the World we live in to a more balanced and humane perspective.  (Please see Installment #92.)

Daily topics have been and will continue to be posted in our Call for Love group as well as in our sister, like-minded groups: Dancing the Dream, Michael’s Circle of Love, Daily Life with M.J. in Your Heart, and Major Love Prayer to encourage all members of these social media groups to take a moment each day to lift up the issues of the daily topics in prayer and meditation.

February of 2018 marks the beginning of the fourth year for the Change the World Initiative and I felt that we needed to “refresh” our purpose in order to avoid the topics becoming too stale and repeated by rote. As a result, I have decided to change the days around to reflect a more “filtering down” effect from a hierarchical perspective and add a brief meditation video to each day’s topic for those who wish to indulge in a moment of reflection, to refresh those who have been faithful to these daily prayers and meditations and, possibly, attract new followers to the Initiative who may not have been aware of it previously.

All of us have been inspired by the example of one man who, despite endless ridicule and never-ending persecution, did just that – he CHANGED THE WORLD. I know he changed MY world and I suspect that if you are reading these words he changed yours. Michael Jackson worked tirelessly to awaken the world to the many problems that we all face including environmental erosion, natural resource exploitation, animal cruelty, abuse and neglect of our children (especially the sick and dying), racial inequality and man’s inhumanity to his fellow man. He envisioned an entirely different approach to the care of the sick and elderly and showed through inviting children to his Neverland Valley Ranch and supporting them with love, that his approach, like Patch Adams’s, could really go a long way toward healing those ill children … with LOVE. With his songs, performances, films, interviews, and life he shone the light of LOVE on each of these issues and reminded us, always, that LOVE IS THE ANSWER.  Therefore, this update and repetition of our daily focus topics is being referred to as “Awakening” and the term will be repeated throughout this update.

As Jesus left his disciples to complete his work, and Gandhi-ji left his followers to complete his mission; Michael Jackson has left us, his disciples, to complete his mission, which he articulated in song and performance the world over. “Can You Feel It,” “We Are Here to Change the World,” “We Are The World,” “Heal the World,” “Another Part of Me,” “Earth Song,” “Cry” … all of these songs, and many others, state his purpose quite clearly. There can be no doubt of what he considered his mission; and while some may scoff at what they call his “naiveté” and others degrade and ridicule, I don’t see any of his detractors doing half as much as he did to Change the World. We, his disciples, feel his purpose strongly.

“They’ll do it. They who? It’s us … or it will never be done.”

I want to express my sincere gratitude to all who have incorporated these daily focus topics into their individual spiritual practices with purpose and resolve. I so appreciate all of your comments and shares.

Monday – Religious Leaders and Institutions

As all of us are “spiritual beings having a human experience,” may we all awaken to the fact that we are all religious leaders, or, rather spiritual leaders. While we may not be particularly enamored of the “political” issues and power struggles of most organized religions, the new Science of Noetics and investigations into the Quantum sciences are proving that we influence the world around us with our observations, our judgments, and our actions. We are quantum events in physical form and we lead by the example we set for our parents, our siblings, our children, our extended families, our friends, our communities. Through our “Awakening,” we “Awaken” those around us. We have no choice in this; it is happening, whether we are conscious of it or not.

Our only choice is to consciously awaken ourselves and those we love by intention or to unconsciously awaken ourselves and our families and friends by default. It is our choice whether we awaken those in our inner circle to fear or love, despair or hope, service or personal aggrandizement. We choose by our focus, by what we give our attention to and place our energy in … our passions and how, and if, we express them.

If we are led by an absorption in our position in the physical, material world and the acquisition of wealth and power, those around us will also be led by the lust for power and wealth, ruled by logic and devoted to material acquisition.

If we are led by our faith in our spiritual oneness and focus on our spiritual connection with the others in our lives and our world, those around us may learn to question their own absorption in the physical, material world and hasten their own” Awakening” as a result.

If we harbor resentment or promote hatred and inequality based on difference of any kind that is the example we are setting for our children and it will lead us into war and racial, religious, gender, or national tension, with history repeating itself in every generation. In this way, the adage that the “sins of the father are visited upon the son” is true.

As Michael stated:

As we awaken to Love, we awaken to the truth that we are all ONE.

Each one of us has a personal responsibility to choose in every moment between the duality and division of the physical world and the spiritual knowledge of oneness each of us holds safely within our hearts.  We can balance our inner and outer lives simply by re-aligning our focus.

Imagine, if you will, a large room with many men and women entering it. Some are dressed in garments that indicate their religious or national affiliation. Each of them finds a seat around a large, round table – a table with no head or foot, no primacy, no beginning, no end, each an equal part of the oneness of the circle.  We see each person present being allowed to speak. Racial, religious, gender, and national differences are irrelevant to these discussions. Each representative is awakened to the goal of service to humanity.

As we take our seats around this table, let us each awaken to the fact that we are Love … a Quantum Event … expressed in physical form and let us bring that Love to the table and all of those seated around it. While we may disagree with something said by another representative or the way it is said, let us resolve to perceive each person around the table as Love expressed just like us. In this way, we awaken from our deep sleep of illusion to see past the difference that seeks to divide to the oneness that lies beneath.

Tuesday – Government Officials and Policy Makers

It is important for us to awaken to the fact that our governments and policy makers are a reflection of our own collective inner turmoil; they mirror our own insecurities, fears, and focus. Whether elected or not, they reflect those things upon which the society they represent places its attention. Unfortunately, too often, they reflect our collective fear and war and tyranny results; they reflect our intolerance and deep-seated feelings of superiority, our egotistical “us versus them” mentality, our lack of trust and their rhetoric reflects that intolerance. They “act out” on the world stage our own inner state of chaos, our lust for power or possessions. In return, we degrade them as “power mad,” “greedy” without ever looking within and realizing that we, too, have all of their faults on a smaller, individual scale. On a collective scale these faults are magnified and manifested with greater vigor.

We must awaken to the truth; we can teach ourselves to perceive the spark of Love that each and every one of us embodies, no matter how deeply buried beneath our veneers of hardness and callous disregard and disrespect, whether aware of it or not.

We are here to change the world, beginning with ourselves; as quantum events, by changing ourselves we cannot help but to change the world and the way we perceive it. We can awaken to the truth that we are all tiny sparks of a much bigger flame that burns but does not consume. And we can do it within these bodies. However,

“…it takes practice, practice, practice until you get it right

… and then practice some more until you get it beautiful.”

We need to practice seeing the divine in ourselves and, by extension, in all those we encounter; we need to practice peace, envision it, build it in our inner worlds brick by painstaking brick, and anchor it in our consciousness for it to be made manifest in our world. We need to awaken to our power, hidden for so long beneath dogma and intolerance of difference.

It’s our power to change the world our children live in.”

This was Michael Jackson’s consistent message to us. He lived it; he breathed it; he supported it in song, dance, and humanitarian outreach. Let us all awaken to his message and carry it forward every day in all that we think, do, and say.

Many of our most important modern spiritual authors and leaders have restated this adage:

“You’ll See It When You Believe It” – Wayne W. Dyer

“The Spontaneous Healing of Belief” – Gregg Braden

“Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life” – Wayne W. Dyer

“If you want to make this world a better place,
Take a look at yourself and MAKE THAT CHANGE.” – Michael Jackson

Imagine, if you will, that our governmental leaders and policy makers are now entering the room and taking their seats at the huge round table we introduced in yesterday’s meditation. Some are wearing suits and ties; others are wearing national attire. They are entering and taking a seat around our miraculous round table. We see them taking their seats in full and conscious awareness that they are here in this circular room to serve the greater good for all of their constituents. They are awakening to their prominent roles of respect for the differences represented around this round table. They are awakening to their roles of service to humanity.

Wednesday – Information Media

We must awaken to the fact that, once again, our media and broadcasters reflect our own collective prurient interests and magnify them so that we can see their effect on our own psyches and the world we live in. Catering to our desire to “know” as much as possible about our public figures – those we love — and those we hate — they burrow into the private lives of our superstars and government officials and parade our worst fears back to us in four inch headlines under the cover of the “public’s right to know.” They chase public figures through dark underpasses and take the “million dollar picture” of a dying woman under the guise of “investigative journalism.” They ignore and violate the human rights of their targets in their never-ending need to be “first” to “break the news.”

As a result, we need to awaken to the fact that our news is broken – biased, slanted, and often not even true. If they find nothing salacious enough to print and broadcast, they make it up to keep us on the “edge of our seats,” following their every word, pacified and apathetic to the many things in the world around us that should be receiving the majority of our attention.

If we don’t buy it, they can’t sell it and make their all-important profit. We must awaken to the fact that we have the power to re-educate our media and broadcasters simply by “not buying their garbage.” We have the power to speak out against “checkbook journalism” with our checkbooks. Most importantly, we have the power to investigate for ourselves and allow our truth to be felt within our own hearts. And we have the power with the technology available to us to BE the change we want to see take hold in our world.

“Just because you read it in a magazine
or see it on a TV screen
Don’t make it factual”

“To read it sanctifies it”

We have a choice. We can continue to allow our media to tell us what we want to read or we can tell it that we want truth. We’re tired of lies. As the above quotes from his music indicate, Michael Jackson was not shy when voicing his dissatisfaction with our media. He bore the brunt of rampant media speculation for over half of his fifty years on this planet.

“They’ve got to hear it from me
They’ve got to hear it from you
They’ve got to hear it from us
We can’t take it
We’ve already had enough.”

While one copy remaining on the checkout lane may not bring them down overnight, we do have a voice. One voice multiplied by a million can make a lot of noise.

“There’s nothing that can’t be done if we raise our voice as ONE.”

We are not powerless. We are just sleeping. We need to awaken and remember who we are and that we deserve better from our publishers and broadcasters, our movie directors and our television news anchors.

Imagine, if you will, that the media has been invited to cover the historic meeting taking place in the rotunda around the huge round table introduced in the two previous meditations. They enter the room, quietly setting up their cameras to record everything that happens during the meeting about to get underway accurately and with no editorial commentary. News anchors hold their microphones; cameramen position their cameras to get the best possible angle of all of those seated around the table. Representatives from major publishing corporations enter and take their seats around the table in full and conscious awareness that they are here to serve the greater good of all of humanity, those seated around the table as well as those at home. Truthful, honest, unbiased reports begin to flow out of the room to be disseminated throughout the world.

Thursday – Educators

Like our religious, governmental, and media institutions, our educational system is broken. We are teaching our children from a very early age to conform to society’s expectations – to be cogs in an Industrial Age society – to not stand out. While some schools are taking a more progressive approach to education by including individual learning modalities or meditation into the curriculum, the vast majority of the schools our children attend are operating on an outdated “outcome-based” model, with standardized tests that measure little more than a pupil’s ability to memorize and repeat by rote.  Children who require more physical movement are drugged to make them more compliant with “the norm” and everything is geared toward the “average.” We are not teaching them how to excel, to follow the impulses of their own natural curiosity, to think for themselves, to be lifelong learners, to express their passions in creative ways, or to be balanced and well-rounded adults.

We need to awaken to the fact that we are all educators. Our children’s earliest and most important educational experience occurs in their homes and their most influential teachers are their parents and caregivers. Our society has made it nearly impossible to survive without two income families, meaning that both parents work full-time jobs … and sometimes two … when both parents are still present in the home. When they return from their work, tired and stressed parents just want to decompress from their day. They need some quiet time. Are we teaching our children that they are important and loved when we ask them to be quiet while we watch the 24-hour news cycle? Are we listening to their concerns or teaching them how to be concerned and loving parents?

Do we teach them that their spiritual lives and physical lives are one and the same or are we teaching them that they are separate – their spiritual lives practiced for an hour or two on Sunday morning with the remainder of the week devoted to advancing in the competitive environment of school, sports, and social life? How do we reconcile the imbalances and bridge the gap between the competition they encounter in their physical lives and their spiritual lives.

Our children are much more influenced by our example than by our words. When we judge others because they don’t measure up to our standards of behavior, our children learn to judge others. When we employ name calling when cut off in traffic, our children learn to belittle others based on disappointed expectations. When children witness or experience emotional, verbal, or physical abuse, they learn to bully their peers and react violently to others. When we practice hatred based on difference of any kind, our children learn to feel superior to their peers based on race, gender, religious, or national affiliation. When we focus all of our energy on making money, getting ahead, acquiring possessions, our children learn to be acquisition-oriented.

We need to awaken to a new kind of educational model – one that provides fulfillment for both the teacher and the pupil, one that encourages our young people to explore the wonderful possibilities born when they practice engaging their own natural curiosities and passions, one that provides for individual learning needs and integrates both the spiritual and physical lives of its students, and one that involves parents and teachers in a balanced and shared goal of developing each student’s fullest possible potential.

Imagine, if you will, our round table filling to almost its fullest capacity with new entrants representing the educational system and parents. Each new entrant is welcomed around the table with respect for his or her unique perspective. No job is more important around this table of equality. There is no hierarchy within this room; only equality is practiced here within this massive congregation. Each representative is fully aware of his or her place in the goal of service to the greater good of all present. Each is awakened to the fact that each plays an important and equal role in these discussions for all of humanity.

Friday – Youth and Youth Leaders

Is it any wonder why our youth are confused, resulting in bullying, school violence, and suicide? As we have examined throughout this week, all of our institutions are seriously broken; none of them are currently serving the purpose for which they were created and all of them are sending mixed messages to our young people.

Religious leaders and institutions, founded on the basis of love and compassion in almost every case, have become major corporations generating billions of dollars every year and exercising power over millions of adherents. As a result, they are more concerned with protecting their power and financial structures and interests than in enhancing adherent’s spiritual balance.  Intolerance based on gender or orientation is openly preached from pulpits the world over, adding to our feelings of separation and division rather than unifying us under the banner of love, which is the purpose for which all of our religious institutions were founded.

Government officials and policy makers, placed in office to serve the greater good, often are more obligated to the special interest groups whose financial support allowed them to be elected. Power and personal advancement have become more important than service to the greater good of humanity.

Communication media reports focus on the sensational and news broadcasts and movies are filled with violence, making heroes out of the most aggressive action personalities and glorifying war. Even their games and music are filled with violent images while we try to tell them that violence toward themselves or others is wrong and unjustified.

Their educational system does not teach them to excel or engage their passions. They are pigeonholed into narrow points of view and graded on how well they fit into the “norm.” Creativity goes unrewarded … and sometimes punished.

We must awaken to the fact that our youth reflect our own societal faults, our own fears and biases, our own intolerance of difference.

“Are we blind to the fact that our children
Are raging against the indifference –
Crying out against the abandonment –
Thundering against the neglect?”

From this excerpt from his “Heal the Kids” speech at Carnegie Hall, we know that our mentor, Michael Jackson, was fully aware that if we want to change the world we live in we need to change the way our children are being parented, taught, governed and informed. The only way to do that is to awaken to our responsibility to change the way we see ourselves and our parts in the greater play of LIFE.

Imagine, if you will, a great noise approaches our rotunda as the door bursts open and the room is flooded with children of every ethnic and national origin. These children encircle our huge round table, standing behind the seated religious leaders, governmental officials and policy makers, media representatives, and educators.

Imagine, if you will, that they are welcomed into the discussions, each representative acknowledging their right to be present, to have their voices heard. In this exchange of views, we learn from each other, respect each other, support each other. We learn to approach our discussions with a child’s heart … and our children learn that they are an important and integral part of the change we wish to see in our world.

Now, let’s go out and CHANGE THE WORLD!

An Open Letter to Michael Jackson – My Once … and Future … and Always

Did you know back then, my Love, how with nothing more than your voice you would saturate this soul-weary world with wonder?

When you sang, “We must bring salvation back,” words written for an 11-year-old, wide-eyed and beautiful boy by older men, could you have possibly understood that those words and that child’s voice would echo down through the decades of confusion to both be … and fulfill … the prophecy of the words? As you sang them, did you feel their import?

Did you know that the sparks of your passion would ignite countless fires in numberless places and that hearts, lost in a cold, uncaring world be attracted to that conflagration as a moth to the warmth and light of the flame, unable and unwilling to resist its allure and helpless in its enchantment?

Did you offer yourself willingly on the altar of greed and avarice and consumerism, to be mocked and ridiculed and vilified by those wholly given over to profit?

How could that beautiful child have known that he would be my savior – mine and so many others? How could he have chosen that course and, having chosen, molded his life in such a way that inspiration flowed from each of his living moments to ensnare an unsuspecting world to dance the Ballet of Love?

Did you know when you wrote and sang “Heal the World” that it would usher in the New Year of 2018 in South Korea, a nation still torn from its nearest neighbor by the wounds of totalitarian tyranny in a thinly-disguised plea for healing?

Were you, indeed, also blessed with the gifts of prophecy and precognition?

Did you know that your voice and music would stop rioting in Boston, provide comfort to families wrenched asunder by terrorist attacks in Paris, inspire charitable efforts for hurricane relief in Haiti, and be sung for the Pope in the Vatican … while also inspiring global unification to “Thrill the World?”

Did that beautiful, mocha-skinned, wide-eyed boy plan it? Who could plan that? Was it planned for him? Did he imagine, anticipate, create, and live his every breath in such a way as to manifest this global impact?

As I look back on the year just passing, full of new and exciting discoveries and experiences, I do not mourn its passing because I see your imprint GROWING in every corner of my world. I see YOU reaching out to heal rifts caused by the human illusion that any of us can be separate and wounds caused by natural and man-made disasters. I see YOUR face shining from the faces of all those who are reaching out to help in every country on every continent. I see YOUR eyes, lit with compassion and concern, in every hospital this world over, in every doctor’s face and every nurse’s smile, curing disease and caring for the destitute. I see your children giving what they can give of themselves and their resources to “Heal the World.”

Even closer to home, when the changes in my life seem heavy and they come fast and furious, when I think that my everyday becomes too full of busyness and is preventing me from feeling your presence, I know that:

You are there
Like the laughter of a child
When I need just a smile
You are there
Like the rainbow after rain
And every night I say a prayer

Once and Future King

Just because you’re there

So, as 2017 draws to a close and 2018 is born with a full moon to herald its birth, I feel grateful for all the new and exciting experiences it held, the dear friends who have become family who shared them with me, for the love we share through you, and I look forward with great anticipation to the tidal wave of your energy as its impact and import is felt and seen in the coming year.

I am thankful for every breath you inhaled during your sojourn with us and every note you exhaled in music that charmed and enchanted, beguiled and bewitched, leaving joy and love in its wake.

I am so grateful that the speeding locomotive that knocked me on my keister twenty-five years ago didn’t take a different route.

There are not enough “thank you’s” in the world to express my gratitude for the awakening you wrought in my life that night, all the awakenings that have occurred since that night, and all the awakenings you continue to inspire as we move forward together, my Once … and Future …. And Always!
